Library STEM Workshops
On January 4th and 5th, 2016 , the team conducted various activities for children across Markham at the Cornell and Markham Village Libraries. They had a lot of fun learning about the science behind some cool experiments, as well as more information about the team and the world of FIRST robotics as a whole! Stay tuned for more library workshops during the March Break!
FLL York Qualifier Tournament
This robotics competition designed for elementary students was sponsored by FIRST Robotics Canada and run by our team on Saturday, December 10th, 2016. In this year's game, Animal Allies, teams chose and solved a real-world problem revolving around human and animal interaction. In addition to this, they competed with an autonomous robot they built, programmed and tested using Lego Mindstorms technology, designed to complete various challenges set out in the robot game. 18 teams comprised of students ages 9-16 competed at this qualifying tournament in hopes of moving on to the Provincial Championships at UOIT taking place in early January 2017.
Markham Santa Claus Parade 2016
On November 26th, members of the team participated in the annual Markham Santa Claus parade, handing out candy canes and displaying their 2016 robot. Big thank you to FRC Team 4001 Rams Robotics for letting us join you with 4946 Alpha Dogs!
FIRST Parody Contest
After various brainstorming sessions, the team finally decided to make their own parody of One Republic's song, Counting Stars. Enjoy our version of the song, incorporating what we believe to be some of the most important aspects of FIRST!
On October 22nd, the new (and returning) members of the team competed in an off-season event hosted by team 4914 (Panthers), playing the FRC 2016 game, Stronghold. After various stressful matches, the team made it all the way to the semi-finals with the help of their friends on 4946 Alpha Dogs and FRC Team 4001 Rams Robotics. It was a very exciting set of matches, and the team is super excited to return next year!
