In this year's game, Animal Allies, teams chose and solved a real-world problem revolving around human and animal interaction. In addition to this, they competed with an autonomous robot they built, programmed and tested using Lego Mindstorms technology, designed to complete various challenges set out in the robot game. 18 teams comprised of students ages 9-16 competed at this qualifying tournament in hopes of moving on to the Provincial Championships at UOIT taking place in early January 2017.
